The Light of Kiribati

The new millennium first arrived in the Republic of Kiribati in the Pacific Ocean, and the new light was carried symbolically to the rest of the world in a wooden canoe by an old man and a young boy. This poem was written after watching this powerful event and subsequent New Year’s celebrations around the world on public media.

The Boat People

Written in 1979 about refugees who fled their homeland after the Vietnam War. This recording from 1982 features me (piano/vocals), Beckie Boger (flute/vocals), and Rick Chapman (guitar). This song is reminiscent of the current plight of refugees around the world (“America, let them in!”).
