“Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.” Matthew 7:6
How the craftsman must ache
As we trample the art
In his finely finished floor.
The Preacher’s heart must break
When his sermon seems to bore.
And if the Robin thinks such things,
She surely rends a sigh
When we fail to hear her warble
In the stillness of the night.
Henceforth I shall feel their pain
As if it were my own.
For I have felt the trample
O’er that which brightly shone.
I have sung my songs in silence,
And the sermon that is mine
Was cast in vain before them
Like pearls before the swine.
